Community artists invited to beautify Playland While the amusement park prepares for its thousands of annual visitors, a new initiative called #PlaylandArt will give community artists the opportunity to showcase their work. 1. Asphalt Artists: The first two installments of the initiative will be a call for "asphalt artists" to decorate pavements around the park and a community-wide Dragon Coaster art contest. Playland said the art selected will be displayed throughout the park during the season. Applications for asphalt artists are open until Feb. 29. Work samples with links to a portfolio and any social media profiles are required and should be sent to [email protected] with the subject line "Asphalt Art". Selected artists will receive up to $5,000 for their work. 2. Dragon Coaster Contest: This year also marks the 95th anniversary of the iconic landmark Dragon Coaster, which opened on July 20, 1929. The amusement park will be hosting a special birthday bash for the ride on July 20. As part of the celebration, all local and community artists of all ages and experience levels are welcome to submit their best interpretations of the Dragon Coaster with any multi-media art, including drawings, paintings, photo, video and sculpture. The deadline for submissions is March 15 and winners will be announced during the 95th birthday celebration. Submissions should be emailed to [email protected] with the subject line "Dragon Art Contest." The amusement park said winners will be selected in three age groups: children up to 9 years old, youth ages 10 to 18 years old and adults 19 years old or older. First place prize winners in each category will receive a five-year season pass to the park. Second place winners will receive a two-year season pass and third place winners will receive a one-year season pass. source: Lohud MORE INFO:
