photos by Buonocore ![]() Dear Parent/Guardians, I am pleased to inform you that we broke ground for the TUFSD construction project yesterday, and are off to a great start. Although the streets surrounding our schools will remain open for traffic and pedestrians, there will be a high volume of trucks and heavy equipment moving in and out of our neighborhood throughout the summer. I am writing to respectfully request that you direct your children not to play on school property including the WEC and MS/HS fields, and to advise them to avoid walking and riding their bicycles near the schools on Siwanoy Boulevard, Middle Road and Crawford Street to ensure their safety. The project is exciting to see, and it is only natural for our students to be curious, but being in close proximity to the construction sites may pose serious safety risks. Thank you for your support. Yours truly, Carl Albano ![]() Fireworks displays are planned across Westchester and the Hudson Valley. Here is a list of some them. The retail giant, which plans to open in Harrison in 2020 is seeking 220 full-time employees - and nearly 300 part-timers - to staff the 121-000-square-foot grocery store “We bring new employees on board to begin training quickly after they’re hired,” said Store Manager Matthew Dailor, who began working at Wegmans 25 years ago as a part-time parking lot attendant. “Our commitment to in-depth training is the main reason we begin the hiring process so early. These jobs provide competitive pay with industry-leading benefits, flexible scheduling, and most importantly, a great place to work.” As the store approaches its grand opening, the company is hosting hiring events for prospective employees in Greenwich , White Plains, and held one in Eastchester earlier this month. The company is still accepting applications, noting walk-ins are welcome. Those interested in being hired can contact the Hiring Office by calling (914) 539-3700 or going to the office at 1133 Westchester Ave. in White Plains. The White Plains event will be held from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.on Wednesday, June 19, at KOI Creative Space on Mamaroneck Avenue. The Greenwich event will be held from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, June 26 at Char Restaurant on South Water Street. According to the company, “as a part of the team, you’ll experience a culture of collaboration, with coworkers who want to help you learn and grow. With our awesome company perks, you’ll be equipped with the tools you need to make it happen. From flexible scheduling to our employee scholarship program and more, you’ll have everything you need to love what you do at Wegmans.” Last year, Wegmans was named as the top place to work in retail, according to Great Place to Work and Fortune, which takes anonymous surveys of nearly 650,000 employees in the retail industry to determine which are the best employers. It was the third consecutive year Wegmans took home the top honor. “Thank goodness for our employees. They make Wegmans a happy place to work and shop” Wegmans CEO Colleen Wegman said. “Their work is both meaningful and fun, and that’s an unbeatable combination.” When it opens, the new Wegmans will offer a variety of restaurant-prepared foods, including The Burger Bar, fresh salads, sandwiches, kids meals, soup, sides, and beer and wine by the glass. source: DailyVoice Villages of Pelham, Eastchester, and Rye Brook; Towns of Harrison and Scarsdale and Cities of Mount Vernon and New Rochelle, Westchester County
![]() June 7, 2019 Dear Tuckahoe Parents/Guardians, After thoughtful reflection, I informed the Board of Education President, Michelle Liscio, that I will not seek an extension to my current employment agreement, and my last official day of employment in the Tuckahoe Union Free School District will be June 30, 2020. I decided to make this announcement well in advance to allow ample time for the Board of Education to conduct a search process and select a new superintendent. It has been an honor and a privilege to serve as an administrator in our district for the past 16 years of my career, and I am extremely proud of the work we have done. Some of our most significant accomplishments include successfully completing a five-year strategic plan that expanded our K-12 programs and enhanced teaching and learning, establishing fiscal stability by growing an unprecedented fund balance of over $7,000,000 while remaining within the allowable tax levy, and launching a $9,987,000 capital project plan that will significantly improve school safety, infrastructure and the overall quality of education in our district. With clearly defined goals created by our strategic planning leadership team, and action plans developed by our district’s educational experts, I can confidently say that our schools are well positioned to continue their positive trajectory. Please know that I am firmly committed to seeing our capital project through to completion, and working cooperatively during the leadership transition process to maintain stability and support for our 200 employees who provide high quality education for our students on a daily basis. Very truly yours, Carl L. Albano 2019 CHCA Picnic Planning is Beginning!
