Chester Heights Polling Place: |
No Overnight Parking on Town Roadways between 2:00 am - 6:00 am From December 1 - March 15 unless exempt by the EPD In an effort to help town employees keep Eastchester streets clear and safe over the winter, an overnight parking ban will be in effect. Beginning on December 1, and continuing through March 15 next year, no vehicles are permitted to be parked on any public roadways between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. within the town limits, due to the Eastchester Town code regarding overnight parking in the winter. "Simply owning too many cars to adequately fit in your driveway is not considered a hardship," the Eastchester Police Department noted. "You are not exempt from the law." |

As of the 1st week of November leaves are picked up on an unscheduled basis.
Depending on the volume of leaves pickups may vary from once per week to once every 2 to 3 weeks.
Leaves should be placed behind the curb of your property.
Please do not pile leaves in the roadway!
Not only does this create a hazardous condition for vehicular traffic, but it also obstructs storm drains, which will increase flood conditions.
It also takes up parking spaces.
If you have a gardener who does not take the leaves, please advise them of this.
This leaf pickup is a fantastic service that our town offers.
If this cannot be managed, you can always bag your leaves instead.
WARNING! DON’T PARK ON LEAF PILES ALONG THE STREET!
Be mindful that vehicles can ignite when parked on piles of leaves.
Please consider becoming a Fire Commissioner.
We will gladly help you.

On Tuesday, December 14, 2021 the Eastchester Fire District's
Commissioners Election will be held. I think it would greatly benefit
your Chester Heights Association to have a member from Chester Heights
join the Eastchester Fire Board.
Currently, the Chester Heights firehouse apparatus floor is being
replaced, but unless the second floor of that firehouse is made fully
handicap accessible to comply with federal ADA requirements your
association could be barred from using that location.
The second floor is a wonderful public space that should be used by
the community but without a proper elevator or lift doing so could
jeopardize your association and the fire district to a civil rights
discrimination suit.
How could the Fire District justify allowing the second floor to be
used by only the able-bodied after spending millions of dollars on a
roof, windows, heating system, apparatus floor and so on. Generally,
when public buildings are materially renovated that public agency is
required to make ADA modifications.
I was unsuccessful in getting the board to comply with the ADA requirements.
Therefore, the second floor has been off limits for public use.
I know your Association has always taken an active interest in the
fire district and is aware of the importance of having a manned
Chester Heights Firehouse. Please be mindful, that in my opinion, the
current Board policy of under-funding the annual operations of the
fire district and relying on reserve funds to support fire operations
can not go without a reduction in services or raising taxes above the
2% tax cap. The 5 year union contract is an annual 2.5% increase
which works out to really 3% after contractual benefit cost.
This Commissioners election is for a 5 year seat on the Board of Fire
Commissioners and Chester Heights truly needs representation on the
Fire Board when money gets tight.
I hope you can encourage a woman or man in Chester Heights to run for this
position, and I will be glad to help your efforts.
If anyone is interested, I can send an election petition that requires
25 signatures or ask the fire district for a petition, I believe the
deadline to file is November 23 or 24th.
Respectfully,
Dennis J. Winter
EFD Board Member from 2005 -2020
