We are pleased to announce that ownership of Siwanoy Boulevard between Crawford Street and 47 Siwanoy Boulevard has been transferred to Tuckahoe UFSD. While this portion of Siwanoy Boulevard currently remains open for construction vehicles, the district intends to have it closed before school commences in September. A precise date will be forthcoming. The district will post signage and implement a temporary barricade system while we work with our architects and local police and fire departments to determine the best long-term solution. Please note that emergency vehicles will continue to have access to this portion of the street indefinitely.
Construction on our capital project is moving forward on schedule. The bulk of the steel framing for the second story of William E. Cottle School is now complete. Although the heaviest construction will gradually begin to taper off, work on the interior of the new classrooms will continue well into the winter months. The WEC security vestibule project is slightly behind schedule, but should be fully operational by the early fall.
We anticipate that the MS/HS turf athletic field will be completed by mid-August. Please be advised that no one will be allowed on the field until it is officially tested and certified for use.
We want to especially thank the community members who live near our schools for their continued patience and cooperation.
Sincerely,
Carl L. Albano Lee Lew
Superintendent of Schools Asst. Superintendent for Business

The legislation raises the Westchester County sales tax by 1%, to 8.375%.
The tax hike will impact 20 villages, 19 towns and the cities of Peekskill and Rye.
Cities, including White Plains, Mount Vernon, New Rochelle and Yonkers, which are already at or above 8.375%, will not see an increase.
County Executive George Latimer says the 1% increase will allow the county to stabilize its finances. He says the Board of Legislators will hold a special meeting today to enact the measure.
He adds that the fund balance, or rainy day fund, will be replenished after being depleted in the previous administration. He also says county property taxes will be frozen for the next two years, and the county will not have to sell parkland to help balance the budget.
The sales tax hike will go in effect on Aug. 1.
