Steps in the Right Direction Many traffic & safety concerns were expressed at our recent meeting by the attendees. The CHCA board followed up with a detailed email to both Supervisor Colavita and The Police Department.

Mark your calendars! The Tuckahoe Fireworks Extravaganza is back! The world famous Grucci Fireworks will put on a breathtaking show in the skies of Tuckahoe. Entertainment and vendors will start at 7pm, and fireworks will commence at 9:30pm. Food trucks, including the world famous Walter’s Hot Dogs, will be there for you to enjoy. The best part is: admission is free! The fireworks will take place at Parkway Oval, in Tuckahoe, NY. Make sure you bring your beach chairs or picnic blanket to claim your spot! Raindate July 9th. |
Scarsdale Firework Spectacular: Annual firework display will be held on Thursday, June 29th at approximately 9:15 PM at the Scarsdale Pool Complex. Returning to the spectacular will be a performance by the Westchester Band at 7:30 PM. A $2.00 fee will be charged to all non pool members entering the pool starting at 5:00 PM in conjunction with the scheduled fireworks. Beginning at 8:00 PM, ALL individuals entering the pool complex will be charged $2.00. *Alcoholic beverages and glass containers are strictly prohibited. White Plains Independence Day Celebration: June 30, 2017, 6:00pm to 10:00pm; Raindate July 2nd; White Plains High School. Join us for one of our most exciting and enjoyable events of the season. A fun filled evening of entertainment, giant inflatable rides, food and fireworks!

Kensico Dam, Valhalla Fireworks: July 3, 2017 Pre-concert entertainment begins at 6 p.m. with DJ Johnny Rocks and the Gerard Carelli Orchestra takes the stage at 8 p.m.; fireworks will follow at approximately 9:15 p.m. Admission and parking are free. Carpooling is suggested. Concert-goers should bring lawn chairs or blankets for seating as well as a picnic supper. Event will be held rain or shine.

Mount Vernon Independence Day Celebration: St. Paul’s Church at 897 S. Columbus Avenue. July 4th at 10:30am. A traditional July 4th celebration featuring music, speeches, refreshments, reading of the Declaration of Independence, and tolling of the historic St. Paul's church bell - 13 times.
Village of Mamaroneck Fire Department's Carnival: The carnival takes place at 7 p.m. June 27 through July 5; fireworks display over the Long Island Sound at approximately 9 p.m. at Harbor Island Park in Mamaroneck. Arrive early for optimal parking. The fire department parade is at 7 p.m. June 28, from Mamaroneck Avenue School to Harbor Island Park. 123 Mamaroneck Ave., Mamaroneck. 914-777-7784

TUCKAHOE FIREWORKS EXTRAVAGANZA... see separate post
Concerts will take place on the following successive Wednesday evenings on the lawn in front of Bronxville High School: July 5, July 12, July 19, and July 26.
As Al Mingrone said, "Spend a delightful evening under the stars. Bring a blanket, bring a chair, bring some wine and cheese. Enjoy an American tradition."
The concerts are free. However, the band accepts donations by check mailed to PO Box 284, Bronxville, NY 10708. For more information, email [email protected] or call 914-325-1819.

In addition to the game, where children can win prizes for the books they read with you, we also have a number of activities for this age group. Sign-up has begun for our Read-to-Me Kickoff Party, a music show featuring Mr. Kurt Gallagher on Tuesday, June 26th at 11 a.m.

Please take note of the age or grade limits specified; remember, those entering Kindergarten can attend most of our evening drop-off programs even if they are still in the Read-to-Me Game.
Summer Reading Game & Activities for Readers up to Grade 5
If you have a child who is reading independently, in Grades K - 5, they should stop by to sign up for our Summer Reading Game! The game runs through August 15th. Click here for more information about how the game works!
We will be offering a new trivia challenge this summer. Going hand in hand with our "Reading by Design" theme, the trivia contest will have questions related to "Big Ben," the Eiffel Tower, the Leaning Tower of Pisa, the Taj Mahal, and the White House. Participants will receive a "passport" to collect the destinations they have "visited." Summer Reading Game participants can begin answering trivia questions on Monday, July 3rd.
In addition to the game, where children can win prizes for the books they read with you, we also have a number of activities for this age group. Our Summer Reading Game Kick-Off with Magic of Sharks, on Monday night June 26th at 7 p.m., is filling up fast! Sign up on our website.

Teen Summer Reading Game & Activities for Grades 6 and Up
If you're a teen (entering Grades 6 and up) and love reading, stop by the Reference Desk and sign up for our Summer Reading Game. If you pre-register by Tuesday, June 27th, you can vote on the movie that will be shown at our Teen Summer Reading Game Kick-Off Party on June 28th at 7 p.m.

Does your child love math? Bedtime Math's Summer of Numbers is back on Monday, July 3rd. You can sign up through our website, or at the Children's Room desk.
Bedtime Math is for those entering Pre-K through Grade 5. This summer, we will provide all 20 Bedtime Math problems in one packet, that will be available through our website as the date draws closer. For every five age-appropriate problems your child answers, they can earn a prize!

Eastchester Public Library Welcomes Local Authors, David Carraturo & Michael Falotico On Wednesday, June 7th at 7 p.m., join local authors David Carraturo and Michael Falotico for a special discussion and book signing event. | Carraturo, a Tuckahoe native, has just released the final book in his Columbus Avenue Boys trilogy, called Cameron's Quest. The book takes place in the 1980's; the three main characters in this series, Chris Cameron, Sal Esposito, and Tony Albanese grew up together in Tuckahoe. The reader will be able to reminisce about the New York Mets' World Series win, Reaganomics, and John Gotti's underworld reign. Falotico, who also works for the Town of Eastchester, has written and published hundreds of poems. His latest work is a gluten-free Italian cookbook, entitled The Poet's Table. Previously, he published A Walk Through Time, A Road Still Driven, and Reflections. This event is free and open to the public. |
