BOE Meeting |
Due to the Weather Forecast, |
- Mary was thrilled to get the leftovers from the Yard Sale. (She has been selling our old clothes and items in her neighborhood for years.) She said that God answered her prayers. She had been praying for more stuff and "here you are". Pat brought so many things to her from our yard sale leftovers and from the Moore's leftovers. At the end of the conversation, Pat gave her the $20 from Pete and she almost cried, she said this is too much.
- Angie who was working the corner, said "I'm standing here begging for money. I’m starving, I cant believe you just did this. You came out of nowhere and handed me $20." She said, "I have couple of cheerios in my bag, that’s all I have, I’m starving. I’m going right now to get food. I’m not an angel, but I’m going to get something to eat, I promise."
A man came over to buy our bicycle. He said he wanted to give it to a homeless person... wait, it gets better...
He told us how he was homeless once and he will never forget how it felt. He must have spoken to us for 15 minutes about some of his experiences. Pete now has a job which he is very proud of and every time he sees a homeless person he gives them money, not a dollar or two but $100. He shook hands and walked away with the bike. While loading the bike in his car, he called Pat over. He pulled out a $100 bill and said take this and break it into 20s and give it to 5 people in need. Pat told Pete that he worked in one of he poorest sections of Yonkers and knew exactly where to put it to use. Pat told him that he would be visiting that section of Yonkers this week with many of our items that didn't sell and with Pete's $100. Pete's eyes teared up.
OR You could drop items at 26 Lockwood Avenue & I will get it to Gil. It is on Tuesday, so not a lot of time. - Chris | Campus Ministry at Fordham U will once again be leading a Midnight Run next Tuesday the 23rd in Manhattan and we have received very few donations of coats and clothing for Men (Most people experiencing homelessness in NYC are men). With the turn in the weather we are hoping to provide coats, blankets, pants, shoes and new toiletries, black socks and underwear (http://a.co/2JWI90i Amazon Wish List). Always happy to take warm items for women as well. |

Fifteen are new to the 12-year-old event, which runs from Oct. 29 to Nov. 11.
The event, which features three-course meals, is held once in the fall and once in the spring and is all about promoting the chefs and food of the region. It is sponsored by the Valley Table magazine. In total, 18 Rockland restaurants are participating as are 112 in Westchester, nine in Putnam and 21 in Dutchess.
This year, the prix-fixe lunch is $22.95, with dinner set at $32.95.
The event not only publicizes and promotes the importance of the Hudson Valley’s restaurant and chef community, it also highlights the region's farms, wineries, distilleries and other artisanal producers and purveyors.
According to Janet Crawshaw, publisher of the Valley Table and founder of HVRW, the majority of participating chefs and restaurateurs use locally-sourced ingredients.
Other sponsors include Hudson Whiskey, Whitecliff Vineyards, Dutchess Tourism, Rockland County Tourism, Ulster County Tourism, Westchester County Tourism, the Culinary Institute of America, Angry Orchard, Pamal Broadcasting, the Poughkeepsie Media Group and The Journal News.
The complete list of participating restaurants is available at valleytable.com/hvrw; reservations are highly recommended.
As an added HVRW bonus, the ride sharing service Lyft is offering $20 codes to diners at all participating restaurants.
