Ash Wednesday is a day of fasting (Catholics aged 18-59 restrict their food intake to one full meal, two smaller meals, and no eating between meals) and abstinence (Catholics 14 and older do not eat meat or fowl but are allowed to eat eggs, milk products, and condiments made of animal fat. Abstinence does not include meat juices and liquid foods made from meat (chicken broth, consommé, meat gravies or sauces, et cetera).
