We should all be concerned, and monitor the Chester Heights Firehouse developments. It has been 5 years and the repairs are nowhere near complete. Something is amiss. The next Fire Board meeting is Thursday, April 21. Please mark your calendars and try to attend. At the Fire Board meetings in 2016 & 2017, we were assured by the Commissioners that Station 4, the Chester Heights Firehouse, was a priority on the list to finally get long-needed repairs, that the project would take about 1.5 years and that the community would be allowed use of the space. Here we are, 5 years later after much discussion, and the repairs are far from finished, although a lot of money has been spent. We were told last April that the apparatus floor work was awarded to Vinco builders. As we all know, it is still under construction, with less fire protection in our area (when the engine cannot stay outside overnight). It is an eye-sore, and now more issues have been found, specifically water issues. At this week's Fire Board meeting on March 10, 2022, the commissioners approved to hire their engineer to analyze & report on ongoing water issues. It appears that they wish to move forward with the project. However, given some of the comments by one of the commissioners, it is not clear that it will. A Chester Heights resident attended that meeting and spoke, thank you Mike. Because Mike spoke up, some other information was disclosed. Fire Commissioner Tom Roche indicated that he would like to see the house relocated to a more central location (to Rose or Winterhill). Commissioner Paul Ranellone would have suggested tearing it down and building a single story firehouse on a slab before the work started... but that's too late (or is it?) and he wasn't on the board previously. And Commissioner Anthony Lore stated he would never vote to close the house. Paul Carlo did not comment and Brian Keating was absent. Here is the video of the 3/10/22 meeting https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GLptvPzo3Lc. (they start discussing Station 4 at about 1.5 hours into it.) A LOT OF HISTORY:

The April fire board meeting will likely be at Eastchester Town Hall. When we get notice, we will post it.
