The Tuckahoe Community Center Description After much consideration the Tuckahoe Challenge has decided to go virtual! The reasons for this are several, but first and foremost is safety. We have gotten participation in the race up to nearly 400 runners. Unfortunately, a crowd that size on our village streets and gathered at the start and finish will present too much of a safety risk with coronavirus. Another important reason to move virtual is that this race has been in existence for 44 years! We are too close to celebrating our 50th run to let it go. Finally the proceeds from the run support two charitable groups dear to the community, The Friends of the Tuckahoe Library and The Tuckahoe Beautification Committee. These organizations support the village and are needed even more to help our village navigate through the effects of this pandemic. We are extremely grateful to the Raffiani Family Foundation for their support of this race! So how does the virtual race work? The premise of the race will be the same. We will have a 1 mile and a 5k (3.1 mile) or the Challenge (both events) options. Sign up on this site or by mail will be done as it has been in the past. The difference with a virtual race is you can walk or run these distances anywhere during the designated two week time frame and simply submit your time or indicate on the website or by text that you completed the event. We will be offering a gaitor buff as a premium and the design will be revealed later this month. Custom bibs can be printed out at RunSignUp. You can take your picture wearing your bib and post a picture of you completing the event on our Facebook site. We will be working with local businesses to create a virtual race bag with discounts at local businesses. You can complete the event anytime from September 6 to September 20th. Race premiums will be distributed at the Community Center Sunday September 13th. You must pick up your premium in person or arrange for a local delivery if you are unable to make the pick-up date. Shipping will not be available. Awards will not be given out this year. Since we will not have the same level of expense in holding a virtual race we have reduced the entry fee. We look forward to all participating in this new endeavor to keep the Tuckahoe Challenge spirit going and hopefully next year we can return to an in person race! Instructions and Updates will be sent as we get closer to the race to explain how to print out bibs and upload times. See you out running in Tuckahoe! Remember to walk/run responsibly by social distancing and wearing a mask.
