It’s Cyber Monday which means the holiday countdown has officially began, unfortunately it’s also the season for online scammers. Right now everyone is looking for the hottest deal but what’s a deal worth if your identity or banking information are compromised. Before you click “order” please take a moment to review some of these key safety tips. Happy Shopping !
• Always make sure you ship to a secure location because those dang “porch pirates” are on the loose again. • Don’t buy from unfamiliar retailers without confirming the company is legit. Usually these type of websites offer deals that are “too good to be true.” Compare prices and pictures of the merchandise at similar websites. • Never make purchases on public Wi-Fi and if you need too, consider installing and using a VPN- Virtual Private Network. This creates an encrypted connections between you phone/computer and the VPR server. • Use strong passwords with a complex set of at least 10 lowercase and uppercase numbers, letters, and symbols. • always use a credit card when making online purchases as you will get the best liability as most major credit cards offer $0 liability for fraudulent purchases. Also never save credit card information on the site. • Check your statements for fraudulent charges at least once a week during the holiday season or set up account alerts.
