The Tuckahoe Planning Board meeting is Tuesday, July 19 @ 7:30pm A) Petition to the Village of Tuckahoe for a Full Environmental Impact Study of the entire dump area: We need study which includes: any and all risks associated with the current state of the dump, the risks of construction/remediation activities in and on the dump, the risks of the finished project and the continual venting of the vapors, and risks of the groundwater migration of contaminants from the dump. B) The Waverly PTA Petition/Letter: asking for more testing and more safety protocols. This letter is sent directly to State, County, and local public officials. Our goal is to continue funding expert assessment, recommendations and oversight. All funds will be completely dedicated to the experts, and keeping our communities fully informed. Our experts are the only experts who are not compromised by a rush to development. Our experts are the only experts who have taken into account all available historical data. Our experts' only directive is the health, safety & welfare of the public. Update: Current Toxic Vapors Work by Dr. Hughes, and concerns about regrading and digging: Dr. Donald Hughes is actively assessing all of the vapor data that he has be given by the DEC. He and his associate are currently assessing the levels and patterns of the contaminated soil vapors, and soil contamination. The contaminated vapors are in patterns which indicate other untested chemical contamination. The DEC and the developer have said that a large part of the contamination is petroleum based. Dr. Hughes' data crunching is revealing that the contamination is likely from other sources of chemical contamination, such as chemical solvents. This is significant because different contaminants have varying levels of toxicity, and can require more stringent public safety measures. Dr. Hughes is trying to assess potential "hot spots" (severely contaminated areas) before they start digging. Of course, Dr. Hughes is limited by the lack of testing data from large parts of the Brownfield Cleanup Site, and from the rest of the Quarry Dump areas. Large areas of the dump have not been tested at all. Dr. Hughes is also still waiting for the complete testing results that were done in March, 2016 of 125 Marbledale Road, and of 173 Marbledale Road. He has reached out to the Dept of Health (DOH), and they have just responded that they are sending the results. Since the DEC is not looking for the "hot spots" first, and the DEC has confirmed the presence of tanks and drums, Dr. Hughes' indicates that the digging and regrading activities will almost definitely hit tanks, drums, and/or expose "hot spots". This can be dangerous to our community because the construction activities will be directed toward digging first, and then addressing the contaminants that they have exposed after the fact. Without specific real time vapor monitoring, the community will not know the exposures to the community, until well after the exposures have occurred. It took almost 2 months before the DOH assessment of the vapor data of 125 Marbledale Road, and 173 Marbledale Road, were partially completed. Dr. Hughes stresses that there is no current vapor monitoring of the ambient air anywhere on the Quarry Dump now. Dr. Hughes indicates that the Quarry Dump is absolutely giving off vapors right now.
